Top 3 Successful Tips for Posters

If you are considering creating a custom poster, there are three key concepts that you need to keep in mind when designing. These three tips could help you save a lot of wasted time and effort by doing it right the first time.

Know Who You Are Marketing To

The first tip when creating a custom poster is to know who you are targeting.

Who is your target market? What do they like? What don’t they like? Figure out what the driving force is behind that specific market and go for it. This is possibly the most time consuming part of creating a poster because it is the foundation for your building blocks. If a business does not target their market correctly, the rest of the efforts are never going to be the best it could be or worse yet, fall completely flat.

For example, if your market is young kids or even teenagers, you would not reference something for 30 or even 20 years ago- they simply will not get it. You need to reference or model something trendy and of their day and age if you are going to get their attention. Brighter colors, more pictures, etc. are always good ways to attract these types of markets.

Keep It Short

Let’s face it; no one wants to read a long poster. People are constantly on the go and to stop and read a poster is not practical. Even those who are not in a rush will still more than likely not read it because the attention span is just not there for advertisements. On top of that, there is just simply limited space for unimportant or filler information.

With that in mind, keep it short and to the point. Use pictures to dictate where necessary. A lot of times graphics help where text would be too much of a space consumer. Graphics are also more visually appealing and quicker to translate.

Use Good Layout and Flow

The layout and overall flow of the poster is extremely important.  Keep in mind that people read from left to right. This means you should try to have your information follow the same path if you are going to create a successful poster. You will also need to make sure that the overall flow is not choppy and all over the place. When looking at the poster, messages and images should lay out in a clear path that alludes to a sequential order.

The design layout of the poster is very important and so is the location. Make sure you place your custom poster in a visible location where people will be able to see it easily without straining their eyes if it is too far away or even needing to back up because it is too close.

Using these three tips will help businesses put together a custom poster that is reader friendly, effective and worth the effort. If the design is done right, the return on the investment can be significant.
